SECO is a contemporary dance performance in which Bernardo Chatillon engages with elements present in the stage space. These encounters give rise to different bodily conversations. Rather than following a fixed choreography, the scene is constructed anew with each performance. What we see emerges from a interplay between a set of prior agreements and decisions made in the moment. The work stems from a sense of a certain dryness in our time. We live surrounded by information, yet we are not always able to say something about our own experience. SECO attempts to move through this blockage and, through the body, give shape to what we feel — even when it is difficult to put into words.
Bernardo Chatillon (Rebelva, 1982) is a nmultidisciplinary artist, performer and researcher in performative practices. His work explores the relationship between body, environment and narrative, creating spaces for sensory and poetic dialogue between artists, audiences and space.
Trained at Chapitô, he attended the Formação Intensiva Acompanhada at c.e.m and holds a degree in Theatre – Performance from the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema. Between 2012 and 2015, he was a member of the ensemble of Teatro Nacional D. Maria II. In 2016, he moved to Berlin, where he completed a master’s degree in Solo/Dance/Authorship (SODA) at the Inter-University Center for Dance Berlin (HZT/UDK). He has collaborated in a range of formats and projects through artistic practices, encounters and performances with Marc Lohr, Sigal Zouk, Mineral Wasser Kolective, Peter Pleyer, Stephanie Mahler, Jeremy Wade, Benoît Lachambre, Keith Hennessy, Joy Mariama Smith, Meg Stuart, Sandra Noeth, Natasha A. Kelly, CA. Conrad, Sigmar Zecarias, Diego Aguillo, Sophia New, Fernanda Eugénio and Litó Walkey, among others.
He created the performances Reindeer Age #0 (Uferstudios, 2019; Teatro do Bairro Alto, 2020), Reindeer Age #1 (P.T. Espaço do Tempo, 2021) and O Fazer do Dizer (Centro Cultural de Belém, 2022). He develops a living archive of performative practices and interdisciplinary collaborations that expand the understanding of performance as a collective experience.
Since 2023, he has been part of the management of R.I.Ju de Côja (Rancho Infantil e Juvenil de Côja), where he implements the Fôlego project, promoting experimentation, improvisation and artistic exchange. In 2024, he attended the Dramaturgia Platô #10 course, directed by Diogo Liberano.
