An Embodied Exploration of Human Manipulation is a contemporary dance project that delves into the psychological, emotional, and social layers of toxic relationships. It asks how movement can express the often-unspoken complexities of emotional abuse, manipulation, bullying, gaslighting, narcissistic behavior, and cycles of domestic violence. By exploring how choreography can capture and communicate these dynamics, the project aims to support both future artistic work and broader social awareness.
Toxic relationships, marked by emotional dependency, manipulation, and imbalanced power are a growing focus in discussions around mental health and intimate partner violence. While these issues are being explored in clinical and social research, their emotional and lived dimensions often remain hard to capture. This project offers a choreographic lens to bring those experiences to light through movement, translating invisible dynamics into something that can be seen and felt onstage.
During her artistic residency at the Festival, Greek artist Ioanna Anousaki opens the doors of her studio on this day to share the work developed so far.
