brings together the projections Double Bind and Stasis in two adjoining rooms. The films share a common spatial and visual context, establishing a relationship of proximity and coexistence while retaining their own distinct identities.
Double Bind
In this short film we see three workmen constructing a scaffolding. Gradually we see the workers become intregal parts of this construction. The performance appears useless and futile - physical boundaries are questioned, in which an unpleasant beauty hides.
Stasis
In this shortfilm a group of men engage in a strange interaction with a table, in which everyone’s presence is of vital importance. In this bizarre ceremony, the line between reality and illusion, and between the possible and the impossible, becomes blurred.
Ruben Bellinkx (Bruxelas, 1975) creates circumstances in his films, drawings, installations and performances for remarkable encounters between living and inanimate elements of very different natures. He is interested in blurring boundaries and performs acts that push the limits of the impossible. They immerse the viewer in strange situations that are surprising and meaningful and often carry an existential drama. Ruben Bellinkx exposes unequal relationships and mechanisms of conditioning and domestication.
