A performance in which Wura Moraes explores the principle of the body-screen or body-image, referring to Leda Maria Martins’ book Performances do tempo espiralar: poéticas do corpo-tela. Wura starts from the production of images that are not only visual, but also sonic and kinetic, emerging through contact with props arranged throughout the space. When activated, these allow different tableaux to take shape, intertwining moments of pause and silence with rhythmic sounds produced by danced movement, bringing diverse narratives and imaginaries into coexistence.
The objects and props come from her family research archive, continuing the larger project “Confluências”, which Wura has been developing over time. In it, she evokes the memory of her father, Mário Calixto, and her uncle, Miltércio Santos, both dancers and creators, whose artistic expression she seeks to continue and extend.
Wura Moraes (Amarante, 1988) is a Portuguese-Brazilian dancer from Amarante. She has a degree in dance from the Angel Vianna Faculty (Rio de Janeiro), and she had training at the School of Sands (Senegal) and at the Irène Tassembédo Dance School (Burkina Faso). Her research focuses on the intersection between contemporary, urban and Afro-Brazilian dances. She currently lives and carries out her choreographic work between Africa, Latin America and Europe.
