Sarah Baltzinger and Isaiah Wilson, co-creators of the duo MEGASTRUCTURE, have developed a movement language centred around the manipulation of the body and the mechanical body. Their work navigates between physical theatre and “distorted bodies”.
In their work with performers, they are constantly looking for choreographic tools that reveal the uniqueness of each individual. During this masterclass, performer and dancer Chiara Corbetta, who will perform the piece at Pedra Dura, will share different tools enabling participants to approach dance through improvisation methods, contact work and research into different bodily states.
This choreographic research revolves around playing with consequences and sequences: working with chain reactions, where one movement triggers another, and placing the body in different “situations” that encourage the performer to develop their own creativity and seek solutions inherent to each body.
Through improvisation, participants will explore the notions of weight, resistance, rebound, release, suspension, points of initiation, isolation, as well as the alternation between a whole body and a dissociated body.
The aim is to offer participants the opportunity to move through different bodily states, understand their own rhythm and create breaks and instantaneous shifts between states, embody different characters, and acquire tools for instant composition.
In this way, they share the choreographic principles and tools developed by Sarah Baltzinger and Isaiah Wilson as part of their work on MEGASTRUCTURE.
Chiara Corbetta (Brescia, 1994) is a contemporary dancer and performer who has been working professionally for many years. She has collaborated with various companies and currently works with Thibaut Eiferman, Sarah Baltzinger and Isaiah Wilson, Josepha Madoki, as well as Christian and François Ben Aïm. Alongside her dance career, she has developed her work in theatre after training at the Laboratoire de l’Acteur in Paris. Drawn to projects combining physical commitment, sensory depth and emotional intensity, she explores these two artistic fields in complementary ways. She has also begun developing her own choreographic practice, notably through her solo FUORI.
Alongside her work as a performer, Chiara teaches movement improvisation and physical expression to actors and dancers, and is a certified Yin and Vinyasa Yoga teacher.
Chiara first met Sarah Baltzinger and Isaiah Wilson in 2022, during the creation of VÉNUS ANATOMIQUE, in which she performed. The piece has since toured internationally. In 2024, the two artists invited Chiara to become Sarah’s understudy in MEGASTRUCTURE, allowing them to share the numerous touring dates over the following seasons. In 2026, Chiara joined the cast of their new creation PARADIS.
