João Sanchez (1997) is a visual artist, among other things that make his parents proud and his grandparents confused. Born in Lisbon and raised in Arruda dos Vinhos, he graduated in Cinema from the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema and works as a freelance audiovisual professional.
At the age of 17, he premiered his first film, Pecado, at the Cinemateca Portuguesa. The following year, he founded the Colectivo Pagárrenda and presented his first feature film, Nós os Arroianos, in the same venue. This was followed by A Maneira Certa de Encontrar Casa (2018), which became the most watched film and the most read article in Público that year. Since then, he has directed, edited and developed multiple projects in collaboration with companies and agencies.
In 2021, he created the clothing brand Bon Vivant and, in partnership with Maria Abrantes, presented and performed Uma Água Por Favor. The following year, he collaborated with Sublime Dance Company on the creation of the interactive dance video Step Fall & Rise and the documentary Kutxi Kutxi Kutxi. In 2023, he directed FINIMONDO, which was recognised at the inShadow festival. In 2024, at the invitation of Estúdios Victor Cordon, he premiered Rebento at the Millennium Festival ao Largo. In 2025, he returned as a guest artist of EVC, as part of the National Arts Plan.
Still learning to speak about himself in the third person, he is interested in undisciplined bodies and dance as a language expanded to cinema.
