In 2024, Daniel Matos & João Catarino started on a video collection called ‘The Crying Cycles’. It’s a trilogy based on their thoughts about present time and how they see the need for detachment and abandonment to enable a totally new beginning to emerge.  An idea of freedom in constant mutation and which we find no firm definition or image to describe.

In the second part, we understand that eyes can be cleansed through tears that come from outside, that repetition happens by way of schools and our inability to make decisions, and we don’t always come across a crossed body on our way. It was merely a wish to have an aquarium we can fit in and be able to breath with lungs filled with water.

In Crying Cycle 2 video-dance, Daniel Matos and João Catarino propose a dive with an end.

“ … because all I wanted was an aquarium.”
